COLOR / INSPIRATION

Palette library

Copy a palette image, screenshot or color codes. Paste here—no file download.

Browse external palettes, then return here to paste an image or color codes, or import a palette file.

Opens in a new tab. Colors are brought into the studio only when you paste or import them.

COLOR / LAYERS

Color separations

Uses the Color groups you chose in the studio. Each pixel belongs to one group. Select a row to preview it; tick the layers you want to download.

Black masks use black wherever a group is present, with transparency outside it. These are group masks; no halftones or ink-density calculation is applied.

Exports keep original pixel dimensions and the resolution chosen in Export options. ZIP includes a color key, hex codes, palette and layer information. PSD contains separate RGB raster layers, rather than spot-ink channels.

Duplicate and edit selected colors

Choose the colors you want to edit in the copy. Other colors stay protected until you unprotect them. Your saved versions remain available.

Artwork downloads use the current colorway at its original pixel dimensions. Charts add a presentation layout and color key.

Current colorway · artwork only

The recolored pattern at its original pixel dimensions, without chart labels or swatches. PNG, JPEG, TIFF or PSD · RGB.

PNG keeps transparency. JPEG uses a white background. TIFF contains RGB pixels. Photoshop PSD includes the original and recolored image on two raster layers. Artwork DPI sets print-size metadata.

Colorway chart · pattern + named colors

Current pattern preview, colorway name, a continuous color bar, and named swatches with HEX codes and approximate coverage percentages when available.

PNG: 2400 px-wide presentation sheet at 300 DPI. PDF: A4 presentation pages. Coverage describes detected groups in the visible artwork, sampled from the preview; it is not an ink-usage estimate.

Current colorway data & layer guide

JSON with named color groups, original-to-new color mappings, HEX / RGB / Lab values, available coverage percentages and lock settings. The text guide lists suggested layer names and explains the PSD options.

Data and instructions for use elsewhere. For color-group pixels on separate layers, use Color separations below.

Current colorway · color separations

One raster layer per detected color group in PSD, or one PNG/TIFF file per group in a ZIP. Includes group names and color codes.

Current colorway handoff package

Full-resolution PNG, Adobe ASE, color key, dimensions, repeat-check results and commercial-use note in one ZIP.

Current colorway · flat vector artwork

SVG paths from your color groups. Flat colors; original pixel-shaped edges. Shading and texture are removed. Opens in Illustrator.

Complete editable project backup

A ZIP with readable project data, separate images, current edits, saved colorways, boards and palettes. Open the ZIP in Recolor Studio to resume editing.

Current color palette

Colors only: HEX values in JSON, or RGB swatches in Adobe Swatch Exchange (ASE).

Saved colorways · technical sheets

All saved named colorways, or the current one if none are saved. PDF includes pattern previews, dimensions, named colors, codes and spot references. CSV contains the color data only.

Current colorway · 3 × 3 repeat image

Nine repeats, exported separately from your original tile. Presentation sizes only downsample; no pixels are invented.

Saved colorway collection

All saved named colorways with pattern previews, continuous color bars, chips and HEX codes. Uses the current colorway if none are saved.

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

Make your first colorway.

  1. Color. Upload a pattern and select a color. Start with similar hues from the original, choose from the wheel, or enter a hex code. Fine-tune color selection contains separation and texture settings.
Protect important colours (such as grounds) so they stay fixed when you try new palettes or create colourways.
  2. Keep your versions. Changes save automatically. Open Version history to recover an earlier version. Name a colorway to keep it in your presentation sheet. Choose Build a collection to bring your current version into a pattern board.
  3. Inspiration. Add a room or reference images when you want to build a palette. Extract colors or pick a detail, then Save palette. Find it under Saved palettes in Color.
  4. Pattern board. Choose a hero print, add coordinates and accents, and drag them into a collection. Adjust pattern size to balance large and small motifs. Compare side by side or download the board.
  5. Keep a backup. Projects save on this device. Download an editable project file from Export options in Color or Download project backup in the footer.

Ctrl/Cmd Z: undo · Ctrl/Cmd Shift Z: redo · Ctrl/Cmd S: save project · Alt/Option Shift S: shuffle · Ctrl/Cmd Shift S: save colorway · Alt/Option ← / →: previous/next named colorway

Recoloring identifies color groups in a flattened image. It does not detect objects or separate identical colors used in different motifs. Repeat view tiles your existing artwork; it does not repair seams.
